This guided journey has been created for children of any age, however, it is recommended for individuals twelve and under. It was requested by a wonderful friend of mine and is dedicated to an AWESOME 5 year old named Cameron!
When I taught Children’s Yoga and Meditation, I learned a great deal from those young practitioners. The practices helped them understand and express their emotion, share feelings or experiences with me that they had not acknowledged and it gave them a tool. A tool they could use any day, any time.
Meditation can help children with emotional regulation, reducing anxiety, making faster decisions due to less emphasis on past worries and offer safety. Having a place to rest their awareness in moments of distress can be a valuable coping strategy.
I suggest allowing children to experience this meditation in the way they want. In any comfortable position, with any object (stuffed animal, blanket, etc.) that makes them feel safe and if you have time, perhaps offering space for contemplation after the practice. When children contemplate meditation, they draw pictures. Often these pictures reveal the inner workings of a child’s mind and can assist parents with supporting the root cause of stress in their child’s life.
Enjoy!
